"Georges Marvellous Medicine" (R. Dahl)
Roald Dahl
Roald is born in Llandaff in Wales in 1916. Schools he went on was Llandaff Cathedral School, St. Peter’s and Repton.
Roald Dahl had a little brown and white Jack Russell terrier called Chopper. Little did anyone think he’d be inspired to write Chopper’s bottom into his books. Roald wrote all his children’s books from a specially built writing hut in the apple orchard of his house in Great Missenden. It was so private that he never let anyone in to clean it and it gathered dust for more than fifteen years! It was full of litter and spiders’ webs – he adored spiders.
Roald Dahl died in 1990 at the age of seventy-four.
This is the motto that he lived by:
My candle burns at both ends
It will not last the night
But ah my foes and oh my friends
It gives a lovely light.
The book
George has a "grizzly old grunion of a Grandma" - a selfish old woman, who spends her days grouching, grumbling and griping about something or other. Grandma even things it’s time eight years old George stopped growing! But when Grandma tells him how delicious slugs and beetles taste and that she has dark, magic powers, George decides he’ got to do something. He sets about concoting a very special medicine to cure Grandma’s nastiness for good. The results are explosive in this knockabout comic romp.
My opinion of the book
I think the book is for children from six years and up to 13 years old, because I think the book is to boring for older kids. I don’t think the book vas so good that I believed, I think that Mathilda is much better. It was funny that the grizzly Grandma become so high.
