British Empire was the largest empire in the history, and for a substatial was the global power. It was the first "global power". It was an product of the European age of discovery, which started with expeditions to Spain and Portugalin 15th century. In 1913, it had domination over 458 million people, which was a quarter of world`s population. Because of the spread it was often called" the sun never stes on the British Empire", on that time Britain had colonies everywhere, where on at least one place the sun was always shinig.
As a result, its legacy is widespread, in legal and governmental systems, economic practice, militarily, educational systems, sports (such as cricket, rugby and football), and in the global spread of the English language. During most of the territories of the Empire became independent. Many went on to join the Commonwealth of Nations, a free association of independent states.

75 per cent, of the world`s faxes and letters and over 60 per cent of phone calls are in English. Some people say that English is easy language to learn, but some people may not agree, some people that it is rich in vocabulary, and it is widespred. English became spread by the British Empire. By the 19th century, Britain had the world`s largest military power. The Pilgrim Fathers saild from England to America, by taking with them. In the time of waves of immigration to America, many English spoken people went to America. Then English went into Carribean and over to Canada.
English is now widely spoken in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, The Pacific and in South-East Asia. The British Empire do not exist, but English is still spoken. It is because of the economic power that keeps it at the top. The British Empire has sent English everywhere, but it was American super-power that has kept it. English has also borrowed and given many words from other languages.
