Roald Dahl (1916-1990)
Roald Dahl was born 13 september, 1916. He grew up with his family in Wales. Since his parents were norwegians, they visited Norway every summer. He could also speak both languages, english and norwegian. Dahl’s dad died when he was only 4 years old. He was sent to a boarding school, where he achieved bad marks.
When he turned 18, he went to Africa and got a job in an oil company. He was a pilot under the second world war.
After the war, he began to write. While he worked at the embassy in Washington, he wrote little stories, that were published in newspapers. It wasn’t until the 1960s that he began writing for children. Roald Dahl is most known for his children books, and some of them are; Charlie and the Choclate Factory, Matilda and The Witches. There are also made films based on Roald Dahl’s stories. This autumn, you can watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in cinema.
Ronald dahl died, 74 years old, 23 november 1990.
