Child beauty contest – why? Is it just about their mothers? You have maybe seeing it on TV; their mothers bring their child to beauty contest, a child who even has started school.

In this competition make-up, hair extensions, teased hairstyles, clouds of hairspray, fake teeth, sophisticated costumes, screaming crowds (mostly mothers), weird postures, twitched face expressions, tiaras, trophies, money and more or less talent are the ingredients for the usual children beauty pageants, along with exercised smiles and hysterical crying and outbursts.

Some positive things about this beauty pageant are; Learn to stand in front of the audience, and learn to cope with pressure. If the child thought it is fun and likes to spend time with it, so will that be a positive thing also, exactly the same if we were playing football or handball, etc., but it’s not a positive thing if mothers push their children to do something they not like. Some others positive things can be if we win often, urn money, win trophies and maybe some of us properly feel special. Experience too possibly, maybe some wish to work with it.

And then some negatives things about the beauty contest; The children that compete in these beauty contests are aged 2/3 to 10 (sometimes even younger than 2 years old). A negative thing is that this girl under 4 years is to young people, they destroy their skin by using spray tooth and a lot of makeup at an early age, be used by their parents, mothers of these children are usually trying to live their own dreams through their young daughters. The kids will feel very pressure of their parents to participate, they bush the kids to much and one another thing is that the child will lose VERY MUCH child time, something that can cause problems later on in life.

My opinion; I have always had a problem with these beauty pageants. I think it is completely absurd. You may have seen it on television; the mothers bring their children, a child who even has started school, to the beauty contest. They bring their kids in the sun, they are spraytannet to look like carrots, and get fitted false teeth. It says a lot about our society, how much pressure is that everything must be perfect. Even at the age of three to five years. Not right. Children will play, live life, and indeed be children. They love ice cream, and get dirty in the sandbox. Search for crabs, and give away a little tear when the bad crabs catch them in the finger. These children miss too much of the child time, unless they are very happy with what they are doing. But anywise, I hate to see these children on television. Playing dress-up with your daughter can be great, but why transform it into a full-time job?
