Horror Movies
I do not believe that parents should bring underage children to inappropriate movies. For one thing, I do not believe that children are allowed to be in rated or stronger movies. I'm not sure if it is the law or not but it is the reason why parents wanted rating on movies. There are several reasons why I think it is inappropriate to take children to some of these movies. Some are about the rules, some are about other moviegoers, and some are about good parenting.
The rules state that children under certain age should not be allowed to watch movies with a certain rating. I see that up to a -13 rating, children should be allowed to watch them with or without their parents. Anything above that, I do not believe that children should be allowed to watch. Children under 16 should not be allowed to watch rated or stronger movies because they are not ready for adult situations or features.
Other moviegoers should not be forced to have children enter into movie theaters inside with them because it is distracting. For one thing, children make a lot more noise, often at inappropriate times. They will giggle and laugh throughout the movie. They will move around a lot in their seats causing a lot of noise that is distracting. Sometimes, children cry for reasons other than the movies or sometimes because of the scenes in the movies.
Children crying for reasons other than the movie itself are natural. It is also annoying to adults trying to watch a movie that the paid a lot of money to see. If parents want to watch a movie for adults, they should leave their children at home with a babysitter. I do not believe that it is too much to ask for.
Crying because of scenes in the movie is doubly bad. Not only is the crying and annoying, but it really means that the child should not be watching that type of movie. Movie theaters should be strict about this and forced families to leave the theater with their children or go to a movie that is more appropriate for children of their age.
Some of the worst cases of parents taking children into inappropriate movies involve horror or gory thriller movies. I have seen children under the age of 10, some even babies, taking into movies with their parents that are way inappropriate for them to see. Some of these movies included The Exorcist, Hannibal, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I am sorry but I do not believe that children under the age of 10 should be taking into movies like this at all, but matter what the reason or what the parents say.
Theaters and ushers should really enforce this rule here.
It should be illegal for small children to be allowed to enter into movies with tons of blood, gore, violence, killing, sex, nudity, and anything of an adult nature like this. It is awful for children to see movies like this and I am sure that it causes them a lot of nightmares if they are to see things like this.
Every time that I have watched rated horror movies with small children in the room, I hear children crying loudly. I am sure that they are frightened by the scenes of the screen and allowed noises of people getting killed with people screaming. This must really scare them and I can understand why.
This leads me to my next point. That is, good parenting. It is the parent's job to protect and teach their children well. They are expected to make proper and smart decisions for children because they are adults and should know what is in the best interest for their children. Obviously, there are a lot of bad parents out there because I always see children being brought into obtusely inappropriate movies all the time. Good parents would know not to take their children to see movies with very violent and adult scenes.
Again, let me reiterate myself. Children should not be allowed into R-rated or higher movies. Simple. Theaters should make it mandatory that children, regardless of their parents being with them, should be forced to leave that movie. It is obvious that many theaters do not enforce their rules because they do not want to lose sales. This is understandable but no excuse to allow children to be scarred for life by watching movies for adults.
My theater does not enforce the rules because I always see children watching these inappropriate movies. This is one of the few times when I believe that society should step in and really tell parents what to do because it is obvious that the parents do not know what is best for their children.
